Church Cremation

Christians have always treated the remains of their loved ones with the greatest reverence. By her constant practice of burying the departed, the Church affirms her belief in the resurrection of the body. This being the case, the Church permits cremation which was reinstated by Vatican Council II in 1962.

OLSC’s Columbarium

A columbarium consists of a number of niches wherein the ashes of the departed are reserved. Our columbarium consists of a number of stone columns, located next to a statue of the Risen Lord. Also, all niches are named after a title of the Mother of God. It is available for parishioners, their family members and for those with ties to our Parish.

Upkeep and Access

To safeguard the dignity and honour of the deceased, the Parish will maintain the columbarium and its surrounds. The columbarium may be freely accessed at any time.

Christian Burial

The funeral liturgy can take place in OLSC church or any other Catholic church. It may be celebrated within a Mass or as a funeral service. This allows us to say goodbye to the loved one, to pray for the repose of their soul, and to commend them to the mercy of God. As Christians, we believe that these prayers truly benefit the soul of the deceased. Later, the inurnment of the ashes in the columbarium may be accompanied by a short ritual.

The ashes of loved ones can also be inurned from other funeral services held outside of our Parish church.
